Expert Coaching for Effective Safeguarding

The Safeguarding Act

The Safeguarding-Act is a civil contract between a social entity and its members/ collaborators.

It includes:

1) A full safeguarding policy;

2) The self-compliance of all members and all superiors;

3) The structural rooting of safeguarding;

4) The safeguarding-information for all;

5) The safeguarding-training for and presence of safeguarding actors (observers and officers);

6) The accessibility of an independent ombudsperson;

7) The agreement to measures taken in case of abuse.

The Safeguarding Accreditation

The accreditation is a process, including three steps:

Step 1: Signing the safeguarding act and designation an ombudsperson

Step 2: Safeguarding screening: detecting and deleting safeguarding risk factors

Step 3: implementing a full safeguarding policy (with safeguarding observers & officers and the independent ombudspersons)

An institution with an accreditation has the right to put the Safeguarding-Label © on its webpage. After step 1, it will be orange; after step 2, it will be yellow; after step 3, it will be green. After one year and then after all three years, the safeguarding status will be screened.

A Safeguarding-screening

The professional analysis of safeguarding risks includes:

1) An analysis of existing rules and practices;

2) A bottom-up interview of all collaborators/members, including those who recently left;

3) An evaluation of systemic risks (as in rare, closed, interconnected and exclusive entities) leading to structural vulnerability.

The analysis is followed by the implementation of a safeguarding plan, which includes

1) Eliminating safeguarding risks (systemic and personal);

2) Defining aims and steps of implementation;

3) Developing adapted standards;

4) Full information of all members;

5) Systemic training for members and superiors.

In combination with a safeguarding act, a safeguarding accreditation is possible.
